Parts of AZ Immigrant Law Upheld, Other Dismissed

Racial profiling has been enabled by upholding the Arizona immigration law. There has to be a better way to address issues that to have people live in fear of being separated from their families.

A U.S. judge has upheld a portion of an Arizona law that requires police officers to check the immigration status of people during stops that are suspected illegal immigrants. Opponents of the law have claimed it will pave the way for racial profiling. In the same ruling, however, the judge blocked another part of the new law that made it a crime to harbor illegal immigrants. Tim Gaynor and David Schwartz, Reuters 09/06/2012
