Growing knowledge about brain injury increases concern regarding contact sports.

Reuters (3/20, Kelland) reports that advancing knowledge regarding brain injury is leading to growing concern about sports including boxing, football, and hockey that regularly involve brain injury and even in soccer where heading the ball may cause mild trauma. The article says that for most sports, rules can be changed to make them safer and to reduce the incident of brain injury, but in the case of boxing, brain injury is the goal of the fight, so some neurologists are arguing for it to be banned.
